These compiled journal excerpts consist of notes and remarks from logbooks involving shipping voyages from Salem, Mass., to China; Japan; Calcutta and Madras, India; Muscat, Oman; Sri Lanka; Mukha (Mocha) Yemen; Madeira; Jakarta and Sumatra, Indonesia; Manila; and Great Britain, 1800-1803, n.d. The excerpts include notes on navigation, descriptions of an earthquake and a waterspout, illustrations (profile views), and descriptions of Madeira, Sri Lanka, and Madras. The excerpts come from logbooks aboard the ships Active, Anna, and Louisa under masters James Devereux, George Nichols, and Dudley Pickman.
